Legend about formation of Paulines’ monastery

Once there was a dense woods growing in the valley of river Bednja, between Ivančica and Ravna gora. There were many wild animals in that woods, and besides buck and deer, there were boars and wolfs. Through the woods sometimes passed woodcutters and hunters who ruled this area. On the hill Gorica there was a castle of the master of this area. Master had a beautiful deaf – mute daughter, who accompanied him from time to time to the spring on the foot of the hill. On one occasion father and the daughter saw a touchy scene at the spring. Mother wolf was keeping guard, and the young wolfs drank the water from the spring. Father was ready to defend his daughter, if she was attacked by the wolf. He was ready for the attack of the wolf, but all a sudden, joyful laughter of young girl, which was echoing through the woods, startled him from his readiness. Wolf was gone to the woods with her young, and he hugged his daughter, whom he heard for the first time, with the tears. Father decided to take the vale and he built the chapel next to the spring in the honor of Blessed Virgin Mary, around which the monastery was built later on.

In the archeological explorations in the northeast corner of the monastery, there were found foundations of the church, for which is supposed to be older then the current. Under the apse the water springs.
